Tracing evolutionary history and admixture in mixed‐ploidy systems

چکیده

Polyploidy, resulting from whole genome duplication, is a widespread phenomenon throughout Eukaryotic kingdoms. It estimated that 15% of speciation events in plants due to polyploidization and 16% plant species encompass ploidy variation. In spite the evolutionary economic significance polyploidy, there limited set tools would allow routine population genetic genomic analysis polyploid systems, particular for inference diversity differentiation large genome-wide data sets (Dufresne et al., 2014; Meirmans, 2020). Such shortage striking especially when compared rapid development such diploid systems over last decade. Consequently, research polyploids still lagging behind diploids, autopolyploids, example, with multiple (>2) similar copies. this issue Molecular Ecology Resources, Shastry al. (2021) develops first software specifically designed infer structure ancestry mixed-ploidy sets, opening novel opportunities analysis.

Archaic admixture in human history.

Modern humans evolved in Southern or Eastern Africa, and spread from there across the rest of the world. As they expanded across Africa and Eurasia, they encountered other hominin groups. The extent to which modern and 'archaic' human groups interbred is an area of active research, and while we know that modern humans interbred with Neanderthals and Denisovans, there is not yet agreement on how...

Ancient admixture in human history.

Population mixture is an important process in biology. We present a suite of methods for learning about population mixtures, implemented in a software package called ADMIXTOOLS, that support formal tests for whether mixture occurred and make it possible to infer proportions and dates of mixture. We also describe the development of a new single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array consisting of 6...

A natural history of the human mind: tracing evolutionary changes in brain and cognition.

Since the last common ancestor shared by modern humans, chimpanzees and bonobos, the lineage leading to Homo sapiens has undergone a substantial change in brain size and organization. As a result, modern humans display striking differences from the living apes in the realm of cognition and linguistic expression. In this article, we review the evolutionary changes that occurred in the descent of...

The evolutionary history of primate mating systems

Unlike bones, behavior does not fossilize, so it is hard to infer the evolutionary history of social traits. However, we have shown elsewhere that Bayesian phylogenetic methods allow the investigation of ancestral states and models of evolution of social grouping behaviour in primates. Here, we extend this analysis to another significant aspect of primate social life, which may be subject to di...

Tracing fossil history.

The dynamic nature of the master calcium signaling protein, calmodulin, schematically illustrated by snapshots from an interpolation between its calcium-bound state (blue) and its structure bound to both calcium and a peptide derived from one of its downstream cellular targets, myosin light chain kinase (red), generated using the Yale Morph Server and PyMol software. See the special section beg...
